On April 11th and 12th, Alexander Skouras and Miranda Xafa participated in the Economic Freedom Summit held in Brussels with the participation of organizations such as the Cato Institute, the Fraser Institute, Epicenter, Timbro, the Institute of Economic Affairs as well as members of the ALDE, EPP and ECR parliaments.<\/p>\n

Alexander Skouras participated in a roundtable discussion on the future of liberalization of the markets in the EU Member States, where he stressed the connection between the market freedom, the legislation and monetary health, and the positive economic and social outcomes. Moreover, he noted Greece\u2019s disappointing performance in the relevant international indicators such as the Fraser Institute\u2019s Economic Freedom of the World Index and the successful strategies to deal with the crisis used by Ireland, Cyprus and Portugal who chose the path of structural change over raising taxes.<\/p>\n

Miranda Xafa spoke to the former AfD Chairman Bernd Luke about the growth potential of the Greek economy. The two of them agreed that the problem lies in the lack of competitiveness as well as in the need for fiscal discipline and liberalization of the Greek economy, but while Luke argued that the solution would come through the external devaluation that would be caused by the adoption of a national currency, Xafa has identified the solution to structural changes within the Eurozone and the way to address the institutional market distortions, which to date has not been accomplished, while stressing her strong skepticism regarding the potential for implementing monetary policy even for the rest of the European economy.<\/p>\n
