{"id":17450,"date":"2019-10-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kefim.org\/greece-ranks-30th-over-36-oecd-countries-on-the-2019-international-tax-competitiveness-index\/"},"modified":"2019-10-02T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-01T21:00:00","slug":"greece-ranks-30th-over-36-oecd-countries-on-the-2019-international-tax-competitiveness-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kefim.org\/en\/greece-ranks-30th-over-36-oecd-countries-on-the-2019-international-tax-competitiveness-index\/","title":{"rendered":"Greece ranks 30th over 36 OECD countries on the 2019 International Tax Competitiveness Index"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Greece ranks 30th overall on the 2019 International Tax Competitiveness Index, one place better than in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some strengths of the Greek tax system:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The <strong>personal tax rate<\/strong> of 15 percent on dividends is <strong>below the OECD average<\/strong> of 23.8 percent.<\/li><li><strong>Labor tax <\/strong>complexity is <strong>below the OECD average<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Controlled Foreign Corporation rules<\/strong> in Greece are <strong>modest<\/strong> and only apply to passive income.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some weaknesses of the Greek tax system:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Greece has an <strong>above-average corporate tax rate of 28 percent<\/strong> (OECD average is 23.6 percent).<\/li><li>Companies are severely limited in the amount of net operating losses they can use to offset futureprofits, and <strong>companies cannot use losses to reduce past taxable income<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>At 24 percent,<\/strong> <strong>Greece has one of the highest VAT rates in the OECD<\/strong> on one of the narrowest bases. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kefim.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/mh7rk6xw-1024x1019.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21744\" width=\"485\" height=\"483\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For the sixth consecutive year, the country with the highest rated tax code in the OECD is <strong>Estonia<\/strong>, with <strong>France<\/strong> taking the last position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>KEFiM&#8217;s Executive Director Nicos Rompapas<\/strong> made the following statement: &#8220;<em>Our country&#8217;s disappointing ranking in this year&#8217;s International Tax Competitiveness Index, at 30th out of the 36 OECD countries, shows that we have a long way to go in order to achieve a friendlier to entrepreneurship, employment and household income tax system.
