Dear Donors, Sponsors, Members of the Media, Supporters, Partners, and Friends,
As I write to you today, it is with a heart full of gratitude and a mind eager for new challenges. I am announcing a pivotal transition in my career: stepping down as the President of the Center for Liberal Studies (KEFiM) to embark on a new adventure as the Executive Director of the international Economics Olympiad.
My journey with KEFiM began in 2012, shortly after its inception. Through my role at the Atlas Network and under the encouragement of my friend and mentor Dr. Tom G. Palmer, I supported KEFiM with training, networking, and funding opportunities. In 2015, at the behest of Nicos Rompapas, our executive director, I joined KEFiM’s board. My involvement escalated from supporting to steering the organization, authoring and implementing a business plan that transitioned KEFiM from a volunteer group to a professional and influential think tank.
A turning point came in 2017 when my late friend and hero, Don Smith, extended a generous grant, contingent upon my return to Greece to oversee an ambitious plan of expansion and policy impact. Heeding this call, my wife Stella and I moved back to Greece, and I took on the role of President. Since then, I have been at the helm of KEFiM’s strategy, development, and communications.
The achievements during these seven years have been nothing short of remarkable. KEFiM’s budget has increased sixtyfold since 2015. Our media presence has skyrocketed from less than 10 to over 3,000 annual mentions. Most importantly, we have played a crucial role in advocating for economic freedom and individual rights, leading to several policy victories.
As I transition to the Economics Olympiad, I carry with me not just the experiences, but also the enduring commitment to the values and objectives we championed at KEFiM. The Economics Olympiad represents a unique opportunity to influence and shape the economic understanding of the next generation, a mission that resonates deeply with my experiences and aspirations.
Moreover, I am pleased to inform you that my connection with KEFiM will not end here. I will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board and a trustee of the organization. In this role, I look forward to ensuring the continuity of our mission and to supporting Nicos and the team in every way I can. Furthermore, KEFiM will remain the Greek organizer of the Economics Olympiad and we’ll have the pleasure of working together in order to increase the levels of economic literacy in our country.
To each one of you – our donors, members, journalists, supporters, partners, volunteers, and staff – I extend my deepest gratitude. Your unwavering support and collaboration have been the backbone of our success. I am excited about future opportunities for collaboration in my new capacity and hope to continue the relationships we’ve built.
KEFiM’s journey is one of constant growth and impact, a journey I am proud to have been a part of. I look forward to its continued success and am confident that it will achieve new heights in the years to come.
Please feel free to stay in touch. I am eager to keep our lines of communication open and to see where our shared commitment to liberal values and economic freedom will lead us next.
For Liberty,
Alexander Skouras
Executive Director
Economics Olympiad
