The award ceremony of PROMETHEUS 2017 – the first awards for Freedom in Greece – were established by the Center for Liberal Studies – “Markos Dragoumis” (KEFiM) and took place on Thursday, December 7, at St. George Lycabettus in the presence of 120 prominent guests and award winners.
The “Lifetime Achievement Award” was presented by KEFiM’s chairman Alexandros Skouras to Dr. Tom G. Palmer, the “Journalist of the Year” award, was given to Costas Stoupas by Pantelis P. Papadopoulos and Arkas was named “Artist of the Year“.
Publisher Vangelis Trikeriotis received the accolade on behalf of the well-known cartoonist, from Professor Aristides Chatzis.
KEFiM’s executive director, Nikos Rompapas, announced that the winner of the category “Entrepreneur of the Year” is the founder of the app Beat, Nikos Drandakis, who send a video message during the ceremony.
A very special moment of the evening was when Antypas Karipoglou handed over the “Lifetime award for Promoting Individual Liberty” to Greek politician, former member of the Hellenic Parliament and former government minister, Mr. Stephanos Manos. “Greece, in order to make progress, must return to Greek women and Greeks the freedoms deprived to them by the expansion of the state” said Mr. Manos in his speech, underlining the need for courageous decisions in order for Greece to recover.
Director and actor George Angelopoulos presented PROMETHEUS 2017 awards.KEFiM also supported the voluntary actions for citizens and the environment of the NGO “Oloi mazi boroume!”, via the silent auction for “Prometheus”, a painting by the artist Marianna Veremi.
KEFiM aims to reward individuals, whose work or activities symbolize the values of liberalism. Prometheus represents a basic principle of liberalism, according to which the liberal man raises his stature not only for his own freedom, but for the freedom of others. Prometheus myth also symbolizes trust and man’s ability to manage knowledge together with the responsibility that this entails. We are committed to ensure that PROMETHEUS awards develop into a real institution for liberalism in Greece, in the years to come!
