This year’s European Liberty Forum, co-organized by Atlas Network and the Center for Political Studies (CEPOS), was successfully completed in Copenhagen on May 29th and 30th.
At the event, freedom lovers from across Europe discussed the challenges the region is facing and exchanged views, proposals and practical solutions for a more effective promotion of reforms to enhance freedom in the economy and every aspect of the public.
Alexander Skouras participated in a round-table discussion on labor policy, where he referred to some of the reforms implemented during the crisis in Greece, while stressing that the fact that these were only used after the bankruptcy of the country which makes it extremely difficult to correctly assess their positive results.
Furthermore, what was interesting was the position of Hungarian former member Kesz Zoltan from the Free Market Foundation who highlighted the absence of the freedom of the press in Hungary as well as the position of Robert Guest of the Economist, who drew useful and alarming conclusions from the institutional erosion that led Venezuela to its current political and economic crisis, and warned us of recurrence of this development in other politically sensitive regions of the world, including in Europe.
During the Forum Atlas Network’s Europe Liberty Award for 2018 was given to the Croatian Taxpayers’ Association – Lipa for their successful campaign against the introduction of property tax in Croatia, and the Shark Tank 2018 competition’s award for European think tanks was given to the president of the Serbian Center for Anti-Authoritarian Studies, Ratko Nikolić, for the training program of 20 citizen journalists in order to investigate instances of corruption and violation of individual freedoms.
We remind you that during the event’s dinner, it was announced that the Europe Liberty Forum will be held in Athens on May 8th and 9th 2019 with KEFiM as a co-organizer!
